Drivers License: Interesting Information
In one case, when I was in college, one of the girls on my cross country team was in her car and was driving a few blocks away to meet up with some other teammates to go for a run at a local park. However, after driving for a minute, she realized that she forgot to bring her driver’s license with her. She didn’t think too much of it since she was only going to be traveling such a short distance away.
As it so happened, as soon as my teammate turned onto one of the main streets, she saw that the traffic was slightly backed up and there were flashing lights coming from one of several parked police cars ahead. She thought back for a minute and realized that she had remembered hearing about how the police department was going to be doing this when she had watched the news, but it never crossed her mind until now. She had heard of people getting arrested for not having their driver’s license and was afraid that this would be the end of life as she knew it.
When she told the officer that she had forgotten her driver’s license back at her apartment, she also quickly explained that she was only going to be driving just a few more feet down the road to her friend’s apartment. The officer was nice to her and explained that legally, she could be arrested but based on the circumstances as well as the fact that they were able to check her information in their system to verify that she did have a license, etc., she was simply issued a warning. However, she had to phone one of her roommates to go into her bag in her room to retrieve her driver’s license and bring it to her before she could even move her car an inch. What should have been a quick five minute trip then wound up being an hour or more all because she had neglected to bring her wallet with her.
